Not to be pesky, but, yeah.... if you're hearing the ole lose weight and exercise line from multiple sources (including your own head), you should do it. Seriously. The pressure WILL come down, and double checking your diet for things that add to the pressure, will help. Better off making a small life style change and staying alive, than making the biggest change possible - death. Oh (more doom and gloom), there are ALL kinds of things in between that some would say are worse than death.

Just do it. It's not hard. You'll most certainly like the end results anyway, so why not????

Hi Karen,

I was diagnosed with HBP in March and it was scary! I always had normal BP too but one day I felt odd. I was reading a book and realized that I didn't know what the words on the page meant. I asked a co-worker to check my blood pressure (I thought I was having a stroke) and it was 200/110!

Unfortunately, I had to start medicine to control it. It's back to normal now but I'll probably be taking Benicar for the rest of my life...ugh! Anyway, my doctor told me I need to lose weight and exercise too (does quilting count as exercise?).

We had a similiar experience here in central Ohio last Sept. a entire week of no electricity, we did have cell phones thanks to a neighbor who generously came down with his generator and a power cord and charged our phones for us. Our whole city was basically without power and we were blessed with nice cool weather. After having been through this a couple times in recent years, I did have a butane stove to cook on, some food to cook, gasoline in our vehicles and as a candle maker lots of candles. I save all leftover bits of wax from our candle making and reheat and layer them in candle jars for emergency use. Anyways, what was nice is that you saw lots of people sitting out on their front porches, neighbors helped each other out (we had alot of downed trees in our area including our own ancient pine tree that our neighbors came over immediately with a gas operated chain saw and cut up so our next door neighbor could get out of her driveway). It was very peaceful and quiet! I read books, crocheted, visited with the neighbors while dh went banana's with no cable or internet, LOL!

Ah, now I know where I got my cookie cutter collecting habit from. April bought me a huge bin of cookie cutters for Christmas last year. I can't wait to bust out the halloween ones in a few weeks.
